Day two of vacation   Leave a comment

Today is Labor Day, and it has been a great day!
Troublesome and frantic but also impressive and beautiful

To begin with we left our hotel room and went to the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park which was incredibly beautiful.
I will download photos when I get home on my own computer (I am using my sister’s while we are on vacation)

after going to the Stanley we drove to Rocky Mountain National Park and hiked for two hours and let me tell you, we both were exhausted after that.
but again I got some really good pictures.

Then we got into my car and heading through the park to the other side.
OH MY GOD!!  THe beautiful mountains were just unreal!   WE drove to the top of these mountains, near nerve-wracking drops offs on the side of the roads and fantastic mountains that looked close enough for us to reach out and touch.
It was incredibly awesome!
I took a lot of pictures but again will have to wait until I get home to show you the pictures.

after we got done with Rocky Mountain National Park we drove to Kremmling to eat lunch
That was good and then we headed to the interstate where the frantic part of the day began.
The car started over heating and that was incredibly nerve-wracking.
We sat for about a half an hour to let it cool down and then it was fine, for the most part.
I kept it under sixty and watched the RPM’s  while we kept driving

but unfortunately we got into rush hour traffic  and ended up going between 10 and 40 miles per hour for two hours!
It was awful

But we finally made it into Denver and to our hotel room

Tomorrow we are going to go to the Denver Zoo and then head down to Pike’s peak and then head on to see our sister Wanda and her family in Colorado Springs.

Colorado is a beautiful state.
I still love Utah more, but Colorado is quite nice.

first day   Leave a comment

we left North Liberty Iowa at about eight fifteen on Sunday morning heading to Colorado
At one thirty we stopped in Kearney Nebraska to put fifteen gallons of gas in my tank  Paying $3.95 a gallon.  Costing $60

we ate lunch at a Carlos O’Kelly’s in Kearney and heading on ward to Colorado.
The time changed at the Colorado border and we drove to Sterling to use the Rest Stop bathrooms and fill up the gas tank again.

this time gas we $4.19 a gallon and I put seven and a half gallons in my car, costing me $32

we drove, I drove the entire way, going mostly 85 and 90 miles per hour  ( the interstate allows a person to go 75 in Colorado)

we reached Highway 32 and the speed limit was reduced to 65 and we reached Loveland.  We drove through it and went on a winding twisting and turning road for twenty-two miles going 20-40 miles per hour the entire way.
I was thankful I was driving because I would have been full of motion sickness if I hadn’t been.

And while Estes Park is pretty neither Kathy nor I can figure out what the big deal is.
Our sister Carolyn and her daughter Jackie both rave about the city.
But we just got inside the city and while the mountains are nice, this doesn’t hold a candle to Utah.
